Where to Stay in Graz? Find the Best Areas and Hotels

Having lived in Graz for 13 years, I’ve experienced many sides of this beautiful city and know the best areas to stay. Spoiler alert: The best area in Graz for visitors is the historic old town. But some other areas also have their own unique charm.

In this guide, I’ll not only talk you through the best areas for visitors, I’ll also share what I personally think is the best area to live in Graz.

Whether you’re planning a short visit or considering a longer stay, here’s where to stay in Graz.

City Center: Best for Visiting

I think the old town of Graz is the best area for visitors because most of the top things to do in Graz are right here in the city center. Iconic sights like the Schlossberg, the Clock Tower, and the main museums are all within walking distance.

Plus, you’ll be surrounded by the charm of historic buildings, cozy cafés, and vibrant squares. And if you want to venture out, like to Schloss Eggenberg, the old town has excellent public transport connections to the rest of the city.

Best Hotels in Graz City Centre

Hotel Weitzer

Grand Hotel Wiesler

Aiola Living Graz

This chic, contemporary hotel in the city center has beautifully designed rooms with modern touches. Aiola Living is just around the corner of City Hall and the room are super unique.

Lend: Best for Trendy Bars

Lend is a fantastic area to stay in Graz if you’re looking for a more local, trendy vibe just outside the old town. I love the farmers market at Lendplatz, where you can start your day with fresh produce, baked goods, and other local treats.

The neighborhood has become one of Graz’s trendiest spots, with plenty of cool bars, cafés, and independent shops that give it a unique character.

Best Hotels in Graz Lend

Lendhotel

Lendhotel is a modern, stylish hotel and a favourite in the Lend district, offering modern rooms and a relaxed vibe. The rooms are chic and minimalist, and my highlight is the hotel’s rooftop terrace with its fantastic views of the city.

Hotel Feichtinger Graz

Hotel Feichtinger is located close to Lendplatz and the farmers market. It’s ideal for guests who want a comfortable stay right in the heart of this lively neighborhood.

Jakomini: Best for Public Transport and Park

Jakomini is a great area to stay in Graz if you want convenient access to both the old town and the rest of the city. Known for its excellent public transport connections, Jakomini is the main hub for trams and buses.

The area is also home to my favourite park in Graz, Augarten. When I lived in Graz I loved coming to the park to read a book in the sun. If you’re looking for some fun in Graz, you can even go swimming in the river next to the park.

Best Hotels in Jakomini

Augarten Art Hotel

Augarten Art Hotel is a stylish, modern hotel located close to Augarten Park. The hotel features unique artwork throughout, along with an indoor pool.

Hotel Gollner

Hotel Gollner is located near Jakominiplatz and just a short walk from the old town. The rooms are a bit basic to be honest but it’s a convenient base for exploring Graz.

Geidorf: Best for Living

After living in six different apartments during my 13 years in Graz (yes, I moved way too much!), I can say that Geidorf is my favourite area to live in. Though I never actually lived there myself, many of my friends do, and I’ve spent plenty of time there.

It’s not too far from the city center, but it’s greener and quieter, with everything you need close by. The Murradweg makes it easy to cycle to the city, and public transport connections are great.

Geidorf is clearly a neighborhood for locals, not tourists, you won’t find a single hotel here, only apartments for rent, which adds to its laid-back charm.

Final Thoughts: Where to Stay in Graz?

Overall, Graz has some great areas to stay. But if you’re visiting for only a few days, I think the best choice is the historic old town. With top attractions just steps away and great public transport connections, it’s the perfect base for exploring the city.
