All-Vegan Restaurants in Graz (+ Epic Vegan Ice Cream)

I’ve been vegan since 2007 and have lived in Graz for 13 years. It’s been amazing to watch the vegan food scene here grow! When I first moved to the city, there were no all-vegan restaurants, just two vegetarian ones.

Now, there are so many fantastic vegan restaurants in Graz, even an all-vegan ice cream shop chain that honestly has the best ice cream I’ve ever had!

So, let’s dive into the list, starting with my absolute favourite vegan spot in Graz, the place every vegan here knows and loves: Café Erde.

1. Café Erde

The thing I love most about Café Erde is the daily changing lunch menus. Each day, they offer two options, usually one curry and another dish that varies, from traditional Austrian cuisine to international cuisines.

The lunch menu comes as a main dish, or you can add a daily soup and salad for a small extra charge. They post the weekly menu every Sunday on their Facebook page, so you can plan your visit around the dishes you want to try.

In the evenings and on weekends, they switch to an à la carte menu with options like burgers, wraps, vegan schnitzel, and more. Personally, I recommend the Haussalat. I know, a salad might sound boring, but it’s filling and super delicious.

2. Ginko

A buffet-style dining area featuring trays of hot dishes, including creamy pasta, vegetable casseroles, and red sauces, with small chalkboard signs identifying the dishes. The well-lit setting highlights the modern serving counters and the variety of plant-based options available.

Ginko is a popular buffet-style restaurant in Graz, especially busy during lunchtime. The setup is simple: you choose whatever you like from their daily-changing dishes, with options like fresh salads and hearty main dishes, and then pay by weight.

The large selection is always fresh and tasty, making it a great choice for a quick, delicious vegan meal.

And be sure not to miss out on their delicious cakes, which you can enjoy right after your meal or pick up later at their café location, Ginko Greenhouse.

3. Greenhouse

Greenhouse is my favourite café in Graz, and it’s a must-visit for anyone who loves a cozy, plant-based café. They have a fantastic selection of cakes, though the earlier you arrive, the more options you’ll find. My favorite is the Bananenschnitte.

They also serve delicious bagels, my favourite is the carrot lox bagel, as well as some tasty savory bowls. You have to order at the counter, and you’ll get your drinks and cakes right away, the other food will be brought to your table.

4. Sishaus

Sishaus is one of the newer vegan spots in Graz, doubling as both a café and a hostel. As someone who’s seen a lot of vegan restaurants come and go in the city, I have to admit I’m not sure how long this one will stick around.

The hostel itself has mixed reviews, and my one visit to the café didn’t leave the best impression. It felt a bit unorganised, they were out of a few items, and our simple order of drinks got mixed up even though it was just me and two friends.

Hopefully, they find their footing, but for now, I’d recommend it with a bit of caution.

5. Gerüchteküche

Gerüchteküche is a truly unique vegan restaurant in Graz, and even though I haven’t made it there yet, it’s definitely on my to-do list!

It’s the city’s only vegan fine-dining spot. Gerüchteküche offers a 6-course surprise menu. Dinner is served only at 6:30 pm, and reservations are required, so it promises to be a very high end dining experience.

It’s also worth noting that they’re only open on weekdays, so you’ll have to visit Monday through Friday if you want to try it out.

Eisperle

Eisperle is an all-vegan ice cream chain with four locations in Graz (two of which are open only in summer), and it truly serves the best vegan ice cream I’ve ever had!

They use fresh, local ingredients, and you can really taste it. I also really love their unique, changing flavours, from Earl Grey to Lavender Fruit Twist to Vegan Cheesecake or Brownie (where you can actually taste the cake bits).

Final Thoughts: Being Vegan in Graz

In this post, I’ve highlighted only the all-vegan spots in Graz, but the city’s plant-based scene doesn’t stop here. Alongside these fully vegan ones, there are also some great vegetarian restaurants in Graz and plenty of vegan option places.
