Grand Hotel Wiesler in Graz: Is It Really That Grand?
I used to live in Graz for 13 years, and during that time, I walked by the Grand Hotel Wiesler more times than I can count. On a recent trip back, I finally decided to see if it’s as ‘grand’ as the name suggests.
After two nights there, I’ve got mixed feelings. The location is perfect for exploring Graz, but is it really worth the price? In this review, I’ll break down the good, the not-so-good, and everything in between, so you can decide if it’s the right fit for your stay.
- Perfect Location: Close to top attractions like the Kunsthaus and city center.
- Chic Design: Modern rooms with unique layouts and stylish decor.
- Cool Bar: Great atmosphere for relaxing with drinks.
- Popular Breakfast Spot: Salon Marie is loved by locals and guests alike.
Hotel Wiesler Features
Rooms

As with most hotels, the quality of your room at the Grand Hotel Wiesler depends on your budget. We stayed in the ‘Comfort Independent Room,’ the third cheapest option, since the cheaper rooms were fully booked.
At first glance, I was really impressed by the modern design and the room’s unconventional layout. The sink is right in the main room, and the shower is separated only by a glass door, which gives it a stylish feel.
However, once we settled in, we noticed a few downsides. The whole room filled with steam during every hot shower, which wasn’t great. Another issue was the thin doors, every conversation in the hallway felt like it was happening right next to us.
Sauna

The sauna at the Grand Hotel Wiesler is located on the first floor, and it’s only big enough for two people at a time. That said, it was always quiet during our stay, and we only saw other guests there once, so it felt like our own private space.
One nice touch in the sauna area is the small tea station. They had some really great teas available, but figuring out how to turn on the fancy kettle took a minute! Once we got it going, it added to the relaxing vibe.
Overall, while the sauna here was cozy and intimate, I still preferred the rooftop sauna at Hotel Weitzer in Graz, which offers a fantastic view of the city.
Fitness Studio

The fitness room at the Grand Hotel Wiesler is, unfortunately, quite small. There are only three machines available, though they all look high-quality and professional.
The equipment is solid, but the limited space can feel cramped. If you want a quick workout, it gets the job done. Just hope you have the place to yourself.
Café and Restaurant

The bar at the Grand Hotel Wiesler really stands out with its cool, stylish vibe. It definitely seemed like the kind of place you could relax with a cocktail or two after a day of exploring the best of Graz.
The hotel’s restaurant, Salon Marie, is a popular breakfast spot, not just for hotel guests but for locals as well. I had heard great things, especially about their vegan options, so I was excited to try it.
However, I ended up a little disappointed, there weren’t as many vegan choices as I expected. After browsing the buffet, I decided to head elsewhere for a vegan breakfast in Graz, there are plenty of great alternatives.

Pros of Grand Hotel Wiesler

- Quiet Sauna: Despite its small size, the sauna is peaceful and feels like a private retreat.
- High-Quality Fitness Equipment: While small, the fitness room has professional-grade machines.
Cons of Grand Hotel Wiesler
- Small Fitness Room: Limited to just three machines, making it feel cramped if other people are there as well.
- Tiny Sauna: Only fits two people.
- Thin Room Doors: Noise from the hallway can be disruptive, especially at night.
- Limited Vegan Options: Despite Salon Marie’s popularity, the vegan breakfast options are quite limited.
- Room Ventilation Issues: The open-plan bathroom design causes steam to fill the room after showers.
