Hotel Weitzer in Graz: Honest Review
I’ve lived in Graz for 13 years and have many friends there, so I usually don’t need a hotel. However, I couldn’t resist spending a night at Hotel Weitzer in Graz to see what it’s all about. It’s a popular choice for visitors, and I wanted to experience it firsthand.
This short stay gave me a chance to see if it lives up to the hype and to give you an insider’s view on whether it’s the right choice for your trip to Graz. Spoiler: it’s a great hotel with very affordable rooms right in the city center, and definitely worth it!
Overall, I highly recommend Hotel Weitzer for first-time visitors to Graz. It’s centrally located, affordable, and provides a comfortable base for exploring the city’s top sights, with added perks like a rooftop sauna and cozy café.
Hotel Weitzer Features
Rooms

Like with most hotels, what you get at Hotel Weitzer depends on how much you’re willing to spend. While some of the advertised rooms are absolutely stunning (and slightly out of my budget), I opted for the basic double room during my last stay.
It was clean, comfortable, and had all the essentials I needed. But if I’m being completely honest, it wasn’t anything to write home about in terms of luxury or style. It was simple and functional rather than chic and fancy, but that’s all I need.
Considering the amazing location of the hotel it’s really good value for money though as the basic rooms are very affordable.
Sauna
One of the coolest features at Hotel Weitzer is the rooftop sauna. The view from inside is just amazing, you see over the rooftops of Graz while unwinding in the heat. Honestly, it looks even better in real life than in my photo!
Just outside the sauna, there are a few sun lounges where you can relax and enjoy the fresh air, which feels like the perfect spot to relax after a long day exploring Graz.
Unfortunately, I was nursing a bit of a cold during my stay, so I only got to take a quick peek in the morning while they were cleaning. But from what I saw, it’s definitely a space I’d love to experience properly next time!
Fitness Studio
The fitness studio at Hotel Weitzer is also located on the top floor. To be honest, I’m not usually the type to hit the gym while on holiday. Exploring the city and climbing up the famous Schlossberg in Graz is more than enough exercise for me!
But I have to say, the design of the fitness studio is amazing. The plants combined with a stylish chandelier creates a vibe that’s way cooler than your average hotel gym!
Café and Restaurant

There’s a Hotel Bar at the entrance to Hotel, but every time I’m there it’s closed.
The hotel café, Das Café Weitzer, in the cellar has a big breakfast buffet every day. Unfortunately, the vegan options are quite limited (but they are very clearly labeled).
There’s also Der Steirer restaurant in the same building, which is quite popular. It’s technically separate from the hotel, with its own entrance, but they do work together.
They are both not my favourite spots, as I prefer all-vegan restaurants in Graz and breakfast spots with more vegan options.
Pros of Hotel Weitzer
- Great location: Central, within walking distance to major attractions in Graz.
- Nearby public transport: Tram stop just two minutes away for easy access to Schloss Eggenberg and the train station for day trips from Graz.
- Rooftop sauna: Offers stunning views over the city’s rooftops, perfect for relaxation.
- Stylish Fitness Studio: Chic and modern décor in the fitness studio so working out makes more fun.
- On-site café: Das Café Weitzer serves breakfast and is open to non-guests.
- Popular restaurant: Der Steirer is in the same building, known for its local cuisine.
Cons of Hotel Weitzer
- Limited vegan options: The on-site café and restaurant offer very few vegan-friendly dishes.
- Bar availability: The bar seems to be always closed.
- Basic rooms: The more affordable rooms are clean and functional but not particularly luxurious.
- Sauna access: The rooftop sauna is only available in the afternoon and evening, it’s closed in the mornings.
- Blankets: When I visited Graz in early winter and stayed in the hotel the blanket was extremely hot, I sweated so much during the night.
