1 Day in Innsbruck: Top Sights, Mountain Views & Vegan Food
If you only have one day in Innsbruck, you’ll need to be a bit strategic, this alpine city has more to offer than you might expect.
From historic streets and imperial landmarks to mountaintop views and excellent vegan food, Innsbruck delivers a full experience even in a short amount of time.
While I recommend spending at least two full days here (more if you can), this one-day itinerary covers the absolute highlights, the kind of places and moments you’ll still be thinking about long after your trip.
Breakfast at Spiral

Kick off your day at Spiral – More Than Coffee, an all-vegan café just a few minutes from the Triumphal Arch.
I went in the afternoon for an açaí bowl and a cinnamon roll (both were excellent), but they also serve breakfast and good coffee, or matcha if that’s more your thing.
Morning: Explore the Old Town
Walk down Maria-Theresien-Straße

From Spiral, it’s just a 5-minute walk to the Triumphal Arch, a baroque gateway with a view down Maria-Theresien-Straße toward the mountains. It’s a great spot for that classic Innsbruck photo.
Stroll along Maria-Theresien-Straße, a popular pedestrian street, lined with pastel facades. You’ll end up at the Golden Roof, Innsbruck’s most famous landmark.
Personally, I think the Golden Roof is a bit overrated, the surrounding buildings are just as beautiful, but it’s worth seeing either way as it’s right in the center.
Climb the Stadtturm

Right next to the Golden Roof, the Stadtturm (City Tower) offers a fantastic view over the rooftops and out toward the Nordkette mountains. It’s a short climb and well worth it for the perspective.
Visit the Hofkirche

Just around the corner is the court church, home to the (empty) tomb of Emperor Maximilian I and 28 towering bronze statues. Even if you’re not into churches, it’s one of the most visually impressive places in the city.

Iconic View at Marktplatz

At Marktplatz you’ll find the iconic postcard view of Innsbruck: colorful houses with the mountains rising behind them.
When I visited you almost couldn’t see the mountains, but usually it’s an absolutely amazing view.
Lunch: Snack or Vegan Burgers
If you’re hungry by now, grab a quick bite at the Markthalle, the biggest market in Innsbruck, they have some great options for snacks or local specialties.
Alternatively, for a full vegan lunch, head to Swing Kitchen, right near the Golden Roof. It’s an all-vegan burger spot and great if you want something more filling.
Afternoon: Ride to the Top of Innsbruck

After exploring the old town, it’s time for something completely different, heading over 2,000 metres above sea level without ever leaving the city. This is what makes Innsbruck so special.
Start with the Hungerburg funicular, which departs right from the centre. Then take the Nordkettenbahn gondola, which takes you up to Seegrube. If the weather is clear, continue on to Hafelekarspitze, also known as the Top of Innsbruck.
Even just reaching Seegrube is incredible, the views over the valley and city are breathtaking. It’s hard to believe how quickly you’ve gone from cobblestone streets to snow-dusted peaks.
Dinner: Vegan Pizza to End the Day

After a full day of sightseeing and high-altitude adventure, treat yourself to a relaxed dinner at Meow Pizzeria Verde, my favourite vegan spot in Innsbruck.
This fully vegan pizzeria serves up creative and classic pizzas with great dough, quality toppings, and cozy vibes. I especially recommend saving room for dessert — their tiramisu is absolutely worth it.
It’s the perfect place to wind down after a busy day, especially if you’re still buzzing from the mountain views.
Final Thoughts about What to Do in Innsbruck
If you only have one day in Innsbruck, this itinerary will help you hit the highlights, from the historic old town to panoramic mountain views and great vegan food.
But there’s so much more to see.
Places like the Swarovski Crystal World, with its surreal crystal-filled rooms, or the Bergisel Ski Jump, a stunning architectural landmark with sweeping views, are absolutely worth adding if you have more time.
That’s why I always recommend spending at least two full days in Innsbruck if you can. You’ll be able to take things slower and really enjoy everything this alpine city has to offer.
